What I Learned in Kindergarten...

When our kinders started school on August 27th, the pre-school kiddos did not. At our school for the first two weeks, us pre-school teachers and paras are assigned to a kindergarten classroom. Every kinder room will have at least 2 adults for those first two weeks. All support staff also helps with buses the first week, breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, and recess duty. Shew. Even though we don't have our own students, we sure stay busy.

I know it's a huge help to the kinder teachers, especially that first week. I even have some fun seeing all of the things they do in kindergarten and I love seeing how each teacher handles the first day of school differently.

One of the things I noticed this year was that during math the teacher I was working with jumped right into tens frames. It made me think how easily I could begin to expose my pre-schoolers to the visual structure for counting. I create a lot of counting activities and add boxes for one to one correspondence, so why not create something with tens frames.

Hello Playdoh. I thought making playdoh balls could be great practice for counting with tens frames. If you don't want to use playdoh you could easily use pom-poms and even attach Velcro to stop them from rolling around!

When do you introduce tens frames to your kiddos? Will this freebie be helpful for you?

Back to School Unit Update!

Do you remember the very first unit you ever posted on TpT? It felt pretty awesome to get a product like that on there didn't it! I know I was so happy with mine, so excited to have put together a "larger" item.

Then we all continue to grow and learn and start making our units a little better each time. I've certainly come a long way since my first unit, and I've very excited to have finally updated it!

From This:

To This:

And that's just the cover! Even the actual activities are a million times better! I kept some of what was in the original unit, but revamped it with different clip art or fonts, or added to it. I also added some new activities. If you previously purchased this item from my store you definitely want to make sure you download the new updated version! And if you don't already own it, check out what's included to see if it's something you'd love to buy for your classroom!

Did you previously purchase this item from me? How excited are you to have it finally updated!?

Allergy Freebie & Product Update

For the very first time I have a student with a latex allergy. Since a lot of bathrooming assistance happens in my classroom I felt it was necessary to post something about this allergy.

I made this poster to put on my bathroom door so that whoever is helping him will know right away. If you have a student with a latex allergy in your room you can grab this poster for free. I obviously typed my name in, but I did not make this file editable so you will have to write your students name on the line provided. Laminate it and you could get multiple years use out of this!

I also wanted to let you know that I updated my Classroom Jobs Posters to also be available in a primary colors theme. Nothing has changed in the original file so don't worry--no need to re-download! I just made primary colored ones to use in my room and figured others might be interested in them too!
